Good Quality CHOPPED Hay
I bought this hay because the description says it is long stemmed. This is NOT Oxbow’s traditional long stemmed hay. The stems are short, averaging 3 inches in length. On the box, Oxbow markets this as a supplemental hay, not an everyday staple hay. The hay itself is fresh, soft, green, and smells good. Unfortunately, neither my rabbits nor guinea pigs will eat this hay due to its length. They get frustrated because it is too soft and too short. I gave it a five star rating because of it’s quality. I’m thinking this hay would be best for babies and picky eaters.

Bunny loves it! And a comment on quality variation
Great quality product! I order the 9lb box for my miniature fuzzy lop Darla every two months or so. She absolutely loves it and will clean her hay rack out to the last piece. The packaging is easy to store and keep tidy. I do wish they had an airtight resealable top, but that’s mostly because I buy such large quantities for my little bunny and would like it to stay fresher longer. The only true “downside” to I’ve experienced is that when comparing the price to similar products, it’s one of the most expensive. Since I don’t have much experience with these competitors (Darla liked this hay so much I never needed to shop around) I can’t speak on the quality vs. pricing sliding scale there.I want to address some of the reviews complaining that the product is not consistent in quality. I’d suggest that it is not the quality that changes, but the texture and body of the Timothy hay. Hay is harvested in “cuttings”, 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. For anyone curious, I’d direct you to West Meadow Rabbit’s video on YouTube on the difference between cuttings. Unless your critter is super picky, it shouldn’t make any significant difference to them or the hay’s nutritional profile. Otherwise, I’d suggest buying a hay product which specifies the “cut”.For example, my previous box resembled 3rd cut hay: it was darker in color, the strands were thinner, curlier and almost cotton-candy like, and the smell was potently sweet & like tea. There were few of the “fuzzy tops”, or seed heads, in this mix. My bunny likes this because of the sweeter taste and strong smell. My current box more closely resembles 1st cut hay: the stalks are more rigid, thicker, and a pale green color with lots of fuzzy seed heads that Darla goes crazy for. It just smells like normal hay, and does break into smaller pieces as you get to the bottom of the box along with a more noticeable buildup of dust. This is normal, especially when buying large portions as the fragile stalks get crushed in transit. My bunny enjoys munching along the straight stalks like we would slurp a spaghetti noodle.Again, both should be received well by your bunny so long as they aren’t super picky, and they shouldn’t have significantly different nutrition profiles so don’t let that deter you from seeing if they like this stuff! This brand and product as a whole is excellent, and in my opinion the change in texture is a good thing – no wasteful discrimination for superficial reasons (on a product which does not state cutting) and a natural variation.

Good for guinea pig
I ordered Oxbow hay several times for our four guinea pigs. They always eat it all and the price is competitive compared to the one at the local store. The hay is dry and not dusty. The guinea pigs eat it all the time without complaint. The card box is good quality, and inside is a plastic bag containing hay. So you can close it and the smell will not be that bad. I recommend!

Perfect for my bunnies
My 2 indoor bunnies like this hay.

Absolutely awful quality
I don’t know what happened to their timothy hay but I just received a bulk box of nothing but dust and half inch pieces of hay and that’s it. It looks like sawdust. Their quality has been getting worse and worse and now this takes the cake.

Love it
I buy this product for my rabbits every single month and it’s really good for two rabbits. My only issue is sometimes the hay comes really burnt so it’s like dark and mushy and my rabbits don’t like it that much and other times they come really crispy and green

Solid but not consistent
I’ve ordered the 9 lb box of timothy hay numerous times for my rabbit. It’s a definitely a staple around here and my rabbit seems to enjoy it. They’re healthy and eating well, so I’m pleased. I also like how economical and convenient it is. However, my my box of hay from a recent order was awful. It was dusty and hardly had any long strands of hay. I probably tossed over half the box because my rabbit wouldn’t eat it and would just throw it around. I just got a new box and it’s much better. I’ll continue to buy this hay but keep in mind that it’s not always consistent.

Great Value, Reliable Quality, Fast Shipping
I have had pocket pets for a long time and I currently have 2 free roam bunnies. Rabbits should have an unlimited amount of hay so I go though a lot! This is one of the best values I have found and is consistently good quality. Some other brands I have purchased value packs from have a lot of brown, not fresh cuts but oxbow seems to have good quality control. The box is comes in is recyclable and is a good storage alternative than the bags. It also usually ships in 1-2 days so it is my go to hay.

Since the beginning, I’ve always bought Timothy Hay for my rabbit. It’s a very good hay with lots of fibre which your bunny needs. It helps their GI tract moving which is very important. Luckily, my rabbit just loves her hay and really eats lots of it. She also eats some of her Oxbow pellets too, but what she eats mostly is her hay. The hay comes compressed in a 9 lb. box. So you have to put some muscle into it to get a grab of the hay. It’s easy to store and a very good price for the 9lb box. My rabbit can go through a 9 lb box in 3-4 months. So getting value for my money is important to me. Keeping your pet healthy with Timothy Hay will save you Vet visits. Glad to have found this hay on Amazon.

Our 3rd purchase and it was the same as the 2nd one, the packaging was different from the very first one we’ve purchased, hence the quality of the hay was not the cutting that the bunbuns used to eat. In addition, there were no seal or tape on the plastic containing the hay when you open the box. It’s a 50/50 not the original one.

I’ve been buying this Hay since I rehomed my 2 rescue rabbits over a year ago. They love it. One of them wasn’t keen on eating much hay at the rescue centre but she likes this. Even my vet commented on how good it was when I had them both there for their recent health check and vaccinations. It may be pricey but I wouldn’t use anything else and I would definitely recommend.Update 08/15Similar to the hay grass, the quality can be very hit & miss.I’ve now found a cheaper UK seller for this hay. You can get a 10kg pack for £22 from timothyhay.co.uk.
