The Marineland 5 Gallon Portrait Kit is a five gallon curved glass aquarium. The kit includes Marineland’s 3-stage hidden filtration with a Rite-Size Z Cartridge, Marineland Bio-Foam, and an adjustable flow filter pump. The bright white and blue energy-efficient LED light is hinged for easy access to the tank, and features a 3-way switch to toggle between white and blue, off, and blue-only settings. The white LEDs create a shimmering light in the water that mimic the underwater effect of sunlight, and the blue LEDs produce a relaxing moonlight glow. Also included is a base and a unique glass canopy that slides to the back of the aquarium for easy feeding and water care dosing. This easy-to-assemble kit is beautifully designed and easy to maintain.

Great Small Tank with Nice Hidden Filter
I really like the Marineland Portrait 5-gallon aquarium. The size is perfect for a desk or small space, and the curved glass makes it look modern and clean. One of my favorite features is the hidden filtration in the back because it keeps the tank looking neat without equipment showing. The LED light is bright and makes the tank look nice, especially at night. The tank was easy to set up, and it runs quietly most of the time. It works well for a betta fish or a small setup with plants like Java ferns. The only downside is that cleaning the filter area can be a little tight, and sometimes the water flow is strong for bettas, so you may need to adjust it.This is a great aquarium for beginners or anyone who wants a stylish small tank. I would recommend it to others looking for a compact aquarium.

Beautiful tank.. wish I could find that ONE filter piece though!
I bought my first Marineland years ago. I have 3 now and my daughter has two. They started me on my love of fish. You will learn quickly that this tank is good for one betta and a snail. I had 3 frogs in one, but just upgraded to a ten, because they grew and made it plain they needed more room. I have 5 neons in another tank, and getting ready to upgrade their tank also. My Bettas all have one mystery snail with them. This tank is perfect. Looks great with bamboo for the height, and enough room for a small decor and more plants. I have changed up the light, only because the light it comes with doesn’t have a timer, otherwise, it love the selections of bright to blue and have had no other issues. I’m sorry to hear of another buyer’s tank leaking. I have never had one single issue with all my tanks and all these years. My only problem is the small black L curve attachment on the filter into the tank. The small filter with adjustments sits down in the back of the plastic wall of the tank, hidden from all sides, which i love. There’s tall rigid plastic tube up to the top and a 2 small rubber pieces that connect to push the water into the top surface. Those pieces get soft and tear over time. After an exhaustive search online we took to the streets in our area visiting hardware stores looking for that piece. No luck. I’ve glued them together and banded them with zip ties, but they keep coming apart. I can’t seem to contact the manufacturer for this small filter part and not even sure if it’s the same style in newer models. Very frustrating, but still firm in my belief that this is the best and nicest looking tank for a Betta! If I had room, I’d probably buy another one!

    Overall I do recommend
I really love the look of this tank. The first one I ordered the back compartment that houses the filter was loose from the sides and the filter rattled. (Listen to video). I returned and ordered a second one. The backing is secure now but unfortunately the filter still rattles the same. It’s weird because I had the smaller version of this tank years ago and it was silent. I actually had it on my nightstand. So I’m not sure why both of these are noisy. I actually feel bad for my fish so I unplug it at night. I added an additional little light for brighter full spectrum light for my live plants and a heater.Pros: Very pretty and sleek looking, round edges, easy to set up, good size for a Betta, has a night light, has decent room to add better filter media and a heater in back filter keeps tank clean, decently small footprint.Cons: I wish it was a little wider and shorter rather than so tall, the light is very blue and not very bright (but still looks nice), rattling filter, base comes off so it’s easy to hit glass on stone countertops when cleaning as it’s a little heavy do be careful there.

    In love with this tank
This is such a beautiful tank. I love that everything is pretty much hidden, except for my heater. The instructions that came with the box did say not to put it in the filter compartment, but I have read about many people doing this, I am just too scared to do so lol. There is a notch for your heater cord, so that it does not interfere with the lid design, which is nice. It is super quiet, so quiet that sometimes I have to look and make sure the pump is still working. This tank sits on my dresser next to my bed, so it is nice that it does not make a lot of noise. I have had it set up for about 2 months now, and the light that came with is has been sufficient for the plants I have, they seem to be growing very well. I have seen other people adding more lights to theirs, there is plenty of room on the light attachment to add additional LED strips, and there are little channels that you can run that additional wire thru so that it’s hidden. I have not done this myself, but I have seen where others have.Probably my favorite thing about this tank (other than its appearance, because lets be honest, it’s a pretty good looking aquarium!) is the lid. It is a very thick piece of glass that slides back about an inch to an inch and a half for feeding. To remove, simply pick it up and let the condensation fall back into the aquarium and set the lid off to the side. I have even accidentally sat/stepped on it… I think you’d have to really do a number on it for it to break. It fits very snugly leaving no room for snails to escape. There is also a lid that covers the filter compartment that is a little annoying because it just precariously sits there and can easily be knocked off when you try to slide the glass lid back, but you can make some “hinges” for it by simply putting a piece of tape on either side and attaching it to the back of the aquarium.IF YOU’RE USING THIS FOR A BETTA: The filter comes cranked up all the way on high. Before you even fill this thing with water, take the pump out and turn it down as far as it will go. I also made a baffle for the output nozzle out of part of a water bottle. It’s not the greatest, simply because I don’t have it attached in any way so when I take the lids off for cleaning the baffle comes loose and floats away, but I have plans to remedy this, I just haven’t done it yet. I took the output nozzle and turned it upside down and pointed it up a little so that it is sort of like a waterfall, then placed the baffle over it. I still have good water flow throughout the aquarium, but it is a very gentle flow and I do not find it to bother my betta at all.I did hot rod the filter box by adding some additional biosponge, there is PUH-LENTY of room back there to stash all sorts of bio-media. If you look you youtube, Aquarium Co-op has a very informative video on how to maximize your filter for this tank. Just search for Aquarium Co-op Marineland 5 Gallon and it should be the first one to pop up.Overall, this is my favorite aquarium that I own because it looks great, it’s quiet, maintaining it is super easy, and it is well made. I just ordered another one that arrived a few minutes ago… unfortunately, I accidentally ordered the 3 gallon (in the older model with the different light bar) because the 5 gallon is no longer available for the moment, and I did not realize when I purchased it that there was even a 3 gallon option. Whoops! My bad for not looking closely enough, because I was wanting to also upgrade him to a 5 gallon. But nevertheless, I am keeping it for my betta at work because the tank he has (halfmoon plastic tank) is cheap, flimsy, and just overall a pain in the rear to deal with, it will be my new “hospital” tank.

I bought this for my male long finned betta. He uses all the vertical space in the tank, which is unusual, or I would not have bought a tank with this small a surface area. The tank has have 1 male betta and 6(+??) cherry shrimp for around 8 months now with no losses, and consistent water quality. I would not recommend it it for anything other than shrimp and betta fish. And if you have a betta, it should not a high energy fish (female, short finned etc).I modified it to suit my fish. Cut out the inbuilt filter and instead use a sponge filter. This gave him gentler flow and more swimming space. I changed the light to something better able to penetrate the tank depths. I made sure when I put decorations in the tank that he has mid and top level resting places. My boy is pretty lazy. He has been in larger tanks in the past (more than double) and does not seem any less active or happy than he is in this tank.

Excelente compra, de muy buena calidad y muy silencioso. Por sus esquinas redondeadas hace que luzca mucho y con la luz azul los peces cebra se ven fosforescentes

Ive had this for 1 year. I waited to review. We’ve always had HUGE tanks so i know tanks. This is a perfect tank for a betta fish. No leaks after a year. Filter and lights still work like new. My betta has no problem with filter flow. I just turned it down as its adjustable. Got on sale. Very happy with this tank. My betta loves it. Perfect for my 6 year old daughter to watch her fish swim. Great value!!!

I was looking forward to having this nano tank, but I did not expect something thats turned out to be TOTALLY UNRELIABLE. the first thing to fail was the LIGHT after about 6 MINUTES and then the WATER PUMP the following day BURNED OUT, , what seems to be a nice bit of kit has turned out to be TOTALY UN RELIABLE but I am not returning the item as I have a spare PUMP and LIGHT, If you are prepared for this well go ahead and buy one, otherwise dont bother.
